I've been a volunteer presenter at Sheffield Hospital Radio for over 21 years, spending much of that time hosting the Friday Night Request Show. I enjoy playing listeners' requests for patients across Sheffield's adult hospitals, alongside a mix of classic pop, rock and a wide variety of other music. I also love creating my own (often quirky!) features to keep every show fresh and entertaining.

During my time at the station I've had the pleasure of interviewing local musicians and well-known personalities, including Phil Oakey from Sheffield's iconic 1980s band, The Human League. I've also represented Sheffield Hospital Radio at countless fundraising roadshows and outside broadcasts, helping to raise vital funds for our registered charity at events such as the Sharrow Vale Markets and supermarkets across the Sheffield area.

In recent years I've taken on the role of Fundraising & Events Coordinator on the station committee and now also serve as Vice Chair. It's incredibly rewarding to help support the station both on and off the air.

I'm delighted that Sheffield Hospital Radio now broadcasts online 24 hours a day, allowing even more people to enjoy our programmes. I'd encourage anyone, whatever their age or background, to consider volunteering with us. It's a rewarding experience, especially knowing that around 40% of patients on the wards receive no visitors during their stay in hospital. If we can brighten someone's day through music and companionship, it's all worthwhile.
