Volunteering with Sheffield Hospital Radio

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

What You'll Do

All sorts of people get involved in many ways. Whether you are interested in patient visiting, technical, fundraising, producing content off air, helping out with administration, and, oh yes, the final link in the chain, presenting radio programmes, there's always something exciting to contribute to!

How To Apply?

If you are interested in joining us, please apply online by clicking this link JOIN US NOW. We work in partnership with Sheffield Teaching Hospital Voluntary Services so your application will initially go to them. Then a representative of Sheffield Hospital Radio will contact you to discuss your application. We're sorry, but we aren't able to take work experience students or placements. Our studios are located on the grounds of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield S10 2JF.

What Happens Next?

So, you've applied, you've met with us, you want to be part of the team, we want you to be part of the team, what happens next? Voluntary Services will then be in touch to process your application. This includes a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (previously known as CRB) due to the nature of work that we undertake within hospitals and other parts of the NHS. If, for whatever reason you don't consent to a DBS check we won't be able to process your application to join.

Do I Get Paid?

Everybody is a volunteer and we understand that personal life can influence your volunteer commitments, but we do ask that everyone gets involved in at least four fundraising events a year. All our volunteers are unpaid but we don’t think that volunteering should leave you out of pocket so we take part in a scheme where travel expenses are reimbursed by the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Membership Officer can give you details of how to make a claim.

"I joined Sheffield Hospital Radio with no radio experience at all. Everyone was so welcoming, I've made lifelong friends and I am now working in professional radio."
