Sheffield Hospital Radio is a volunteer-run hospital radio station based in the heart of Sheffield. Behind the music and programmes is a team of volunteers who give their time, learn new skills and help keep the station running for patients across our hospitals.
Whether you're interested in technology, music, social media, events, fundraising, administration or supporting our patients, there's an opportunity to get involved.
We provide training and support across many different areas of the station, including:
Music scheduling – learn how to select and schedule music using our professional computer playout system.
Social media – help create and manage content across our social media channels.
Publicity & promotion – get involved in promoting the station, our programmes and events.
Fundraising – help organise and support fundraising activities and events around Sheffield.
Events – represent Sheffield Hospital Radio at local events, fairs and community activities.
Administration – develop valuable office and organisational skills through a range of station-based tasks.
Technical & studio support – learn more about the equipment and technology that keeps a radio station on air.
You don't need to arrive with a long list of qualifications or experience. Enthusiasm, reliability, good communication skills, a willingness to learn and the ability to work as part of a team are far more important.
“I joined Sheffield Hospital Radio because I wanted to learn something new. Once I received the training, I realised there were so many things I could get involved in. Now I'm involved in all sorts of things across the station and have learned lots of new skills along the way.”
— Paul, Volunteer
Our volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds and bring a wide variety of skills and interests with them. You might have great IT skills, enjoy photography or design, be good at organising events, have a passion for social media, or simply enjoy meeting people and getting involved in your local community.
There is no single role that defines a Sheffield Hospital Radio volunteer. It's about finding where your skills and interests fit and giving you the opportunity to learn along the way.
At Sheffield Hospital Radio, you'll gain practical experience, meet new people, learn new skills and have fun along the way. Every day is different — and that's exactly how we like it!
If you'd like to find out more about volunteering with Sheffield Hospital Radio, we'd love to hear from you. Get in touch and we'll be happy to have a chat about the opportunities available and where you might fit into the team.
