About Nigel

Hello! I’m Nigel. I've been deejaying, off and, on since I was a teenager. As a young man, in my home town of Stoke-on-Trent, I had my own ‘mobile disco’ for five years and played at weddings, engagement parties, birthday parties and even as a 'warm up' for local live bands. All this alongside a full-time day job on the factory floor in the potteries industry.

At that time I was also a presenter on hospital radio - again in Stoke-on-Trent. The station was run on a shoe-string and the ‘deck’ we had for playing records on was like something from the second world war - it was cast iron with huge knobs for faders. Someone told me it had been the very first deck for BBC Radio Manchester!

I went on to get married, have children and a varied career. But in more recent years, I’ve returned to deejaying, both as a hobby and as a way to raise funds for local charities and voluntary projects in my adopted home of Sheffield. I’ve also done voluntary work for Sheffield Talking News (STN) reading current news stories which are accessed by visually impaired subscribers using STN’s free postal memory stick service, podcast, smartphone app or Alexa.

But music is my passion. And it has helped me greatly in some very difficult times during my own life. If I can use that passion to bring a little, joy or comfort, into the of lives of others, I am a very happy man! So I am really looking forward to sharing my love of music with listeners on Sheffield Hospital Radio!

Join me on air (Thursday 2-4pm) for ‘Afternoon Delights’ where there will be a rich and varied range of music from across the decades. Plus there will be a light-hearted music feature on the theme of a topical news item and - of course - your requests!
